Nathaniel Ru was born in Pasadena, CA in 1985 and is known for being one of the co-founders of Sweetgreens. Ru graduated with his B.S in Finance from Georgetown University. After graduating Ru came together with 2 of his Georgetown graduates and was able to begin Sweetgreens.
Sweetgreens is known for being a highly seasonal kitchen that focuses mainly on offering local sourcing and sustainability. The first location of the first Sweetgreens was said to of been located right in the heart of Georgetown. Since first opening Sweetgreens has, since the beginning, been able to expand to 27 different locations in 6 different states. Once the 3 founders realized how bad their community could use more healthy and delicious food places, they came up with the idea for Sweetgreens. Knowing that it would take them a while to be able to start the food chain, they got started right away with brainstorming for ideas on how to start the restaurant.
It turned out that the same landlord of the tavern was also the same landlord of the apartment building that was located around the corner of where Ru and his friend use to live. The landlord ended up seeing a spark in the 3 men that was just a semester away from graduating from Georgetown. It was then the landlord that told the 3 that they needed to come back when they had an architect, a business plan and some business backers. It took the 3 men almost three weeks to find themselves some backers and an architect. Ru went on to talk about how lucky the 3 men where to have had just the right timing.
Currently the owners of Sweetgreens is able to proudly say that they have stores that are located in the Northeast’s major cities and suburbs. Since beginning the chain has continued to serve healthy and fresh meals that is mostly made using ingredients bought from local farmers and purveyors. The 3 co-founders have stated that no matter how many stores they have that it will always be their number one goal to make sure that each and every Sweetgreens meets the Sweetgreens core values. The Sweetgreens chain is one restaurant that is going straight to the top of the food industry.
